We are now on our fourth week in Tech101! We are now taking steps further to validate our proposed problem.

Validating problems is a must in making innovative solutions most especially those technological solutions going for the business side. Our team conducted a virtual meeting to discuss the things we need to do in validating our proposed problem. With this, we will be able to know if the problem we have identified is really a problem experienced by our target end-users. In order for us to conduct the interview deliberately for the validation, we have watched a video entitled, “The Mom Test”, it is about a set of simple rules for crafting good questions that even our moms can’t lie to us about. It was said in the video that presenting a business idea to our moms might not be a very efficient idea as they’ll just say yes to whatever we propose to them because, they love us. Through this test, we have learned one simple rule in conducting interviews, not just for our moms but for our target end-users — a rule to ask open ended questions, not multiple choice or yes/no questions. We should be able to allow them to share what they’re experiences are.

Days have passed and we have found several people that allowed us to meet them virtually for an interview. Some of those people are students taking up courses in lined with Special Education as well as General Education focusing on Students with Special Needs, there were also SPED Teachers, and Deaf people accompanied by a regular family members. After a series of interviews, we were able to validate our proposed problem. The problem we have identified is about communication and indeed it was a prevailing problem by both communities, the Hearing or regular community and the Deaf Community.

This week also marked the time, the MOVE Challenge spearheaded by Concentrix was introduced to us. It was truly a great opportunity as well a blessing for us to showcase our proposed innovation.
